Individualising Clinical Decision Making

This module, worth 9 CPD points, helps healthcare professionals build confidence in clinical decision making beyond guidelines. Guidelines offer an essential framework, but they cannot replace clinical judgement. Hormone care in particular demands flexibility given the variability in physiology, symptoms, absorption, comorbidities and patient priorities.

Led by Newson Education co-founder, GP and hormone specialist Dr Rebecca Lewis, the module explores how to prescribe safely outside standard recommendations when appropriate and how to balance evidence, safety and patient preference. Through real-world consultation scenarios, the focus is on moving from protocol-driven to patient-centred care.

What this module covers:

Off-Label Estradiol Dosing – Recognise and manage poor absorption and persistent symptoms, and understand when higher or off-label estradiol dosing is clinically appropriate.
Family History of Breast Cancer – Interpret family history, communicate breast cancer risk clearly and support patients in making balanced, informed decisions about HRT.
Progesterone Beyond Endometrial Protection – Explore the wider clinical role of progesterone, looking past endometrial protection to its broader effects and how it can be used to individualise care.
The Art of Medicine – A practical Q&A with Dr Rebecca Lewis addressing common areas of uncertainty and the real-world questions clinicians face in everyday practice.
HRT and a History of VTE – Practical, evidence-based approaches to prescribing HRT safely for patients with a history of venous thromboembolism, including route selection and risk assessment.
